About

Kirk Jones has worked as a professional photographer with a wide range of artists and organizations. In addition to working as a freelance artist in Asia for several years, Mr. Jones assisted photographers at Portland’s largest commercial studio, Studio3, and produced custom prints for Pulitzer Prize winning photographer David Hume Kennerly.

Companies such as Chubb Security, Indovina Bank, Coca-Cola, and Foster’s Beer have contracted with Mr. Jones to photograph and market their products.

Original images by Mr. Jones have also been published by various organizations:

  • CNN.com

  • BonAppetit.com

  • NYTimes.com

  • LA Times Travel Oregon (print section)

  • Men’s Fitness

Mr. Jones is fascinated by the study of people and their environments. Through photography, he enjoys exploring the ways in which people live, their living environments, the structure of housing, and how people co-exist. Mr. Jones finds that “some of the most interesting people and lives lived are right next to me and the most exotic places are just over the hill somewhere close.”

Recent topics of focus have been urban farming and the community that supports it as well as the expansion of the Urban Growth Boundary surrounding the Portland metropolitan area.

Large Panel Installations

I have been producing large scale images of Northwest scenery for a few years now. Each image is comprised of 50-100 individual high resolution captures. These are then post processed and stitched into ultra high resolution images suitable for large scale printing. Due to the size and time to produce these, I create a limited few annually for commercial clients and some private individuals. The prints are done by me on archival luster or matte paper and framed professionally.

October 2015 - I was asked to do a solo show of my 'Farm Portraits' project at The Evergreen State College, Olympia Washington Photoland. Curator by Steve Davis, these images were done by stitching 80-100 individual images to create files resolute enough to print at large scale. Largest image was 44" x 130".

LA Times Travel Oregon

Eastern Oregon

I accompanied a writer doing a story on craft beer in Eastern Oregon - an area of the state often left alone in the media. Visiting Baker City, Enterprise, Joseph and Imnaha - the story itself became as much about the people and region as it was about the beer they brewed.

In 2014 my image of Mount Saint Helens was selected as a bronze medal winner by Epson International Pano Awards.

Bon Appetit

Vitaly Paley

In conjunction with a writer, we visited award winning chef Vitaly Paley's home to discuss his family's Gefilte Fish recipe from Russia.

CNN

Matt Gross

When CNN did a story on baby friendly bars writer Matt Gross was featured. I had just seen Matt in San Francisco and had photographed him with his young daughter.

Jesse Bernstein

Jesse Bernstein was a Seattle fixture during the 1980's and early 1990's. Jesse stayed with us near the end of his life and the photographs I have of him I have only used sparingly. When the New York Times needed some images of Jesse for their review of his documentary I felt it appropriate for his legacy.
